Gunthorpe is one of a number of smaller localities with Owston Ferry. According to Coxe, the area known as Commonpiece Lane, the apparition of a cat, said to be the size of a pig, has been reported.

The Phantom Pygmy

According to Coxe, the area known as Jean Yonde or Jenny Hearn, is haunted by the curious apparition of a pygmy "with long hair and the face of a seal".

It is situated on the west bank of the River Trent, and 9 miles north from Gainsborough.
